Explanations and Warnings |
1.) The "Delay in departure" is elapsed time after the predicted departure time from the terminal. Unusual delays on the runway should be treated as a further "Delay in departure". (See the Introduction on http://www.chaitables.com for further explanation.) All other entries in the table are elapsed time after take-off . |
2.) The times are calculated for an observer at sea level underneath the position of the airplane. Zemanei hayom are calculated according to the opinion of the Groh (for which the day is divided into 12 equal parts between sunrise and sunset). Alos Hashachar is the time of dawn that corresponds to 16.1 degrees of solar depression (occurring 72 minutes before sunrise in Eretz Yisroel for the months Tishrey and Nissan). Zeis Hakochavim is the time of twilight corresponding to 8.5 degrees of solar depression. |
3.) Time entries equal to 'none' are not applicable. This occurs, for example, if those times are not encountered after takeoff, or if they do not exist due to the airplane traveling far north or south during the summer and winter months. |
4.) Beware! Variations of route from the expected occur frequently. These times are just estimates. Be sure to finish krias shma at least a half hour before the listed time. |
5.) These tables are applicable only to flights that closely follow the ideal great circle route. Compare the flight path displayed in the airplane to the map below. If they are notably different, don't use these zemanim. |
6.) Do not use these tables if your flight is arriving more than 1/2 hours early. (Tail winds are often encountered traveling eastward in the winter over the Northern Hemisphere. In this case, calculate several tables with different anticpated arrival times). |
Help your fellow passenger! Post these times on the airplane in a conspicuous place.
